Urla Vineyard Route — boutique wineries overlooking the sea
Hailed as Turkey’s first vineyard route — a cluster of boutique wineries gazing out over the Aegean.
The Urla peninsula, 30–40 minutes west of İzmir, has been making wine for millennia — as the amphorae unearthed at ancient Klazomenai attest. Modern Urla viticulture was reborn in the 2000s in the hands of professionals who reinvested in the land, and the route itself launched in 2016 with the ambition of becoming "the Tuscany of Turkey."
Roughly 150 hectares of sea-facing vines, most grown dry-farmed without irrigation, are cooled by western and northern Aegean breezes. The wineries cluster close together — most within 15 minutes of one another — pairing tastings with vineyard restaurants, gardens and boutique hotels.
