Çal Vineyard Route — homeland of Çalkarası

On the high Denizli plateau, the homeland of the delicate, pink-hued Çalkarası.

Çal Vineyard Route

Roughly 43 km from Denizli, Çal is a high plateau lying between 700 and 1,200 metres in elevation — known in antiquity as "Mossyna." By volume it is Turkey’s most important wine-grape region, accounting for around 19% of the country’s wine grapes and some 38% of its wine production.

On this dry-farmed land, where the vines drive their roots deep in search of minerals, a young agritourism movement is taking shape; tastings are served against the backdrop of Mount Çökelez, accompanied by regional cheeses.
